| المستخلص: | This paper highlights the conception and practice of the institution of isbah (moral evaluation and censure of human conduct) with Im m Awz' (88-157AH). Briefly emphasizing his place in the scholarship of the second century hijra, the writer proceeds to shed light on Awz 's distinctive contribution to the conceptual and practical aspects of is bah. Awz 's bold and unequivocal yet wise and balanced mode of counsel provides a rich resource of understanding this important institution of Islamic polity and the contribution of Awz ‘ to its active functioning. The writer has cited interesting and instructive instances of Im m Awz 's conduct in this behalf. He has also supplied significant specimens of his written counsels addressed to the rules of his time. Apart from the moral impact of these counsels, these specimens also display his acumen in literary composition that characterizes his prose. |
