| 520 | |b Assistive technology has developed into an integral part of the learning process of students with disabilities. There are various laws which influence the learning process of students with disabilities and assistive technology in the history of the United States. The use of AT in the classroom to enhance learning is an effective approach for many students with disabilities. In most instances, students with disabilities experience greater success when they are allowed to utilize their abilities to overcome their weaknesses. The numerous types of assistive technology that have been described in this article are readily available for use by students with disabilities and they are already improving the learning outcomes as well as giving students with special needs a chance to be taught along their peers with no disabilities. However, there are a number of barriers that inhibit the implementation of assistive technology for the students, teachers and schools. This article investigates the development of assistive technologies for students with disabilities juxtaposed to the barriers which have impeded their effectiveness and implementation. | ||
