المستخلص:This study aims at developing both argumentative essay writing and critical thinking via online program named the WebQuest. For this purpose, a group of twenty students from forth year, English Department at the Faculty of Education in Tanta University was chosen based on stratified method to conduct the experiment. Students responded to argumentative essay writing pre-test and critical thinking pre-test. Then they interacted with the online program and were assigned both on and off campus online activities. By the end of the study, students were asked to respond to online argumentative essay writing post-test and critical thinking post-test. The study results were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. As for quantitative data analysis, the t-test results show that the students‘ performance in the post-tests of the argumentative essay writing and critical thinking surpassed their performance in the pre-tests. These positive results match the qualitative data analysis represented in analyzing students‘ writing, interviewing seven of the students after the experiment and the instructor‘s reflection on the experiment.
