| 520 | |b The present article is an attempt to reveal the origins of the methodology of evaluating adith narrations in the light of Holy Qur' n. It seeks to emphasize that evaluating adith narrations had been keeping pace with the process of receiving and transmitting adith narrations in the early days of Islam. It shows the clear stress placed by the Holy Qur' n on verifying reports including adith narrations. In fact this is how the early Muslim scholars were led to pay serious attention to it. The article also presents several examples related to statements of praising or disparaging of adith narrators al-Jar wa al-Ta'd I, which is discussed through three sections: statements concerning individuals, statements concerning certain groups and general statements. The Holy Qur' n, however, directs Muslims not to accept any information before investigating the trustworthiness of reporters or witnesses. Lastly, allusion is found in the Holy Qur' n to text criticism, which has been illustrated by citing two practical examples. These examples establish the principle that reports or news should not be endorsed, even from those who might otherwise be trusted, without further examination of the text, especially when the news is significantly impactful or provides such details as might cast doubt on its credibility. | ||
