| 520 | |b Farouq Gweida is an eminent Egyptian poet and writer whose work was and is highly controversial. His poems do sound romantic, sometimes shrouded with this romantic philosophy of escapism. The romantic dissatisfaction with the world and the social context reveals itself persistently in his poetry; one gets the sensation that the romantic urge to seek a better world is always there. However, the man is not another Wordsworth eloping to nature to drink from the fountains of heavenly bliss and joy, neither is he the dreamy Shelley trying to create a utopian world of his own, losing touch with reality and actuality. Gweida never loses touch with reality. His is not a yearning aspiration towards something beyond the ordinary, but rather a continuous attempt to reveal the anarchy and disorder of his contemporary life with an eye on the possibility of bettering the present situation and on the fulfillment of a dream though this dream often ends up in frustration and disillusionment. | ||
