المستخلص:The study aims to investigate the factors affect the availability of medicine in Saudi Arabia through customs clearance procedures at ports , Government tenders and direct purchase, local pharmaceutical industry, and pricing of medicine . To achieve the study objectives, a descriptive and analytical approach has been applied through the guidance of a questionnaire for a sample of 100 persons, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in government and private hospitals and drug agencies. Data Statistical analyses revealed the following results: First: The sample agrees that the price of medicine is the most factor affecting negatively in availability of drug and pharmaceutical product especially in restricting importing of drug to one agent and also the lack of pricing procedure of medicine , also the second most affect factor is the tendering and direct purchase. Second: This is followed by the local pharmaceutical industry factor , the third factor affecting negatively in the field of availability of medicine in Saudi Arabia , in particular with regard to the encouragement of major global pharmaceutical industry for opening branches in Saudi and provide the necessary facilitate to them , the necessary coordination with Relevant government institutions to support the national industry through the support them with the specialized national manpower, chemicals and raw materials which are necessary for pharmaceutical industry .Third: - Finally is the customs and clearance procedures where the most important reasons in this regard is the inconsistency encountered on the requirements of pharmaceutical product clearance between Customs SFDA and lack of agencies commitment with the clearance conditions and requirements. The study offers several recommendations, the most important of which is taking concern with the review of the pricing procedure and policies in a manner ensuring the suitable prices for the consumer and fair profit for the agencies and to reconsider the general tendering procedures and direct purchase regarding them so as to facilitate the availability of pharmaceutical product to consumers and patients without delay .Finally the study recommended the urgent need to proceed in local pharmaceutical industry faster than the present status, in order to enhance Pharmacological Security and the national stockpile of pharmaceutical product, beside the need to review the customs and SFDA procedures for medicines clearance as well as in follow-up the availability of pharmaceutical product in the government hospitals and private sectors after clearance of them .
