| المستخلص: | A prospective study was conducted in Misurata central hospital between the beginning of April and end of September 2005 focusing on the acute injuries of the hand in Misurata city that were sever enough to deserve admission to the orthopedic and trauma department and managed as inpatient. The aim was to determine the magnitude of the problem and to know the main causes. \ A total of 126 patients were admitted during this period because of acute hand injuries, representing about (38%) of the total orthopedic emergency admissions. The problem found to be 9 times more frequent in males, and more commonly involving the right hand. The common age involved was between 20 - 29years. The most common cause was machine injury. The result of this study was discussed and recommendations given to help minimize the problem of acute hand injuries. |
