| المستخلص: | يناقش هذا البحث إقليم خليج سرت ودورة في التنمية والبناء والوحدة الوطنية في ليبيا ويهدف البحث الدور الذي يلعبه إقليم خليج سرت في تطور تاريخ ليبيا السياسي والاجتماعي، نتيجة لموقعه وشكله الجغرافي ودوره في ربط شرق البلاد بغربها بالرغم من وجود الفراغ السكاني وأهمية هذه المنطقة اقتصاديا جعلت الدولة في التفكير جديا بإنشاء تجمعات صناعية ومواني ومصافي نفطية ومصانع بتروكيماوية لملء هذا الفراغ الصحراوي. يوضع هذا البحث الموقع والشكل الجغرافي لإقليم خليج سرت، ثم توضيح موقع إقليم خليج سرت بكونه فاصلا جغرافيا بين إقليم طرابلس وبرقة، ثم توضيح إقليم خليج سرت بكونه رابطا جغرافيا بين إقليم طرابلس وبرقة. وكان لابد من إتباع المنهج التاريخي الوصفي التحليلي. والتزمت فيه أخذ المادة العلمية من مصادرها قدر المستطاع. وتوصل البحث إلى نتائج كانت واضحة وهي عملية التنمية التي تم تحقيقها في هذا الإقليم سواء كانت إنشاء تجمعات صناعية ومواني ومصافي نفطية ومصانع بتروكيماوية ومشاريع زراعية وربط إقليم طرابلس وبرقة بشبكة من الطرق البرية.
