| 520 | |b In this article we will try to see in Mammeri’s novel, serving as a case in point, the complexity of the historical dimension of the testimony in the novel genre. Indeed, this novel evokes implicitly the phenomenon of bandits of honor during the colonial period in Algeria. However, unlike history books, it addresses this issue by revealing some hidden faces of this type of characters, bandits of honor, for some, outlaws, for others. The novel illustrates, in effect, the duplicity and complexity of this character. Indeed, Mammeri traces the trajectory of a young, idle and miserable boy pushed by the injustices of colonization to revolt. The behavior of the character and his portrait are not without reminding us two historical figures of the Algerian resistance to French colonization. Nonetheless, what interest us in the first place are not so much the similarities that this character bears to those two historical figures, as the limits of the craft of the novelist. Our endeavor aims, therefore, to show the limits of the historical record in the novel and to provide a relevant explanation | ||
| 520 | |d Nous nous proposons dans cet article de voir dans le roman de Mammeri qui nous sert d’exemple, toute la complexité de la dimension du témoignage historique dans le genre romanesque. En effet, ce roman évoque d’une façon implicite le phénomène des bandits d’honneur durant la période coloniale en Algérie. Cependant, à la différence d’un livre d’histoire qui traiterait de ce sujet, le roman tente de dévoiler certaines faces cachées de ce personnage bandit d’honneur pour certains et hors-la-loi pour d’autres. Le roman illustre, en effet, la duplicité et la complexité de ce personnage. Mammeri retrace, en effet, dans son roman la trajectoire d’un jeune garçon miséreux et désœuvré que les injustices de la colonisation vont pousser à la rébellion. Le parcours de ce personnage et son portrait ne sont pas sans renvoyer à deux figures historiques de la résistance algérienne à la colonisation française. Or, ce qui nous intéresse ici, en premier lieu, ce n’est pas tant les similitudes que ce personnage présente avec les personnalités historiques, se sont plutôt les limites de l’entreprise du romancier. Notre réflexion vise ainsi à montrer les limites du témoignage historique dans le roman et tente d’en fournir une explication pertinente. | ||
