| المستخلص: | The purpose of this study was to develop EFL fifth grade primary school students' listening comprehension skills through a comprehensive assessment- based program. The participants of the study included 80 students who were randomly chosen and divided into two groups: experimental (N= 40) and control (N= 40). The instruments of the study were: (a) a listening skills checklist for identifying the most important listening comprehension skills needed for the sample of the study, (b) a listening comprehension test to measure to what extent the experimental group students' listening comprehension skills were developed, (c) a learners' interest questionnaire towards learning listening to assess to what extent the comprehensive assessment-based program enhanced learners' interest towards learning listening. The program was taught over a period of two months. Results indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and those of the control group in their performance of listening comprehension and in their interest towards learning listening favoring the experimental group. It was concluded that the present study provided evidence for the effectiveness of using the proposed program in developing primary school students' listening comprehension skills and in raising their interest towards learning listening. |
