المستخلص:Since the seventies of the 20th century micro-finance activities have become a vital and dynamic mechanism to overcome the socio-economic problems. Islamic micro-finance activities in general, and in Sudan, in particular, are witnessing a substantial development for the last few years of the current century. Their success attracts numerous financial institutions in Sudan and other international and regional financial institutions. Nowadays, Islamic micro-finance is considered as a new strategy and an effective approach for reducing both levels of unemployment and poverty. This paper seeks to examine how major macro-economic variables, such as unemployment and poverty levels could be reduced via the Islamic micro-finance in Sudan. Key concepts to be considered in this study, unemployment, role of the Islamic micro-finance as a mitigating factor, the role of micro-finance institutions, and other relevant stakeholders, in meeting the needs of the poor in order to reduce unemployment and poverty in Sudan. The paper included four major sections in addition to an introduction and a conclusion. Section one presents salient features of Sudan economy, section two discusses the concept and definitions of Islamic microfinance and its significance in a developing country as Sudan. Section three illustrates challenges and constraints facing Islamic micro-finance. Whereas section four, showed in general, the socio-economic impacts of Islamic micro-finance such as provision of job opportunities, poverty reduction, empowerment and other benefits. The paper adopted both descriptive and analytical approaches. Results reached reflected that micro-finance activities could possibly reduce levels of unemployment among graduates in Sudan. The paper recommends that better management of micro--finance activities is the backbone of success in solving socio-economic issues such unemployment and poverty.
