المستخلص:Due to the onset of electronically created media, a transformation in the world‘s business environment did occur. Such transformation resulted in the evolution of a rapidly changing information economy in which business enterprises put great emphasis on having both internal and external web-presences to link their data processing systems more efficiently and flexibly, to work more closely with suppliers and partners and to better .satisfy the needs and expectations of their customers. Being one of the frequently used applications of electronic business in terms of enterprise communication and collaboration, web content management systems (WCMS) have become vital in facilitating the organi- zation, control and publication of a large body of documents and other content, like images and multimedia resources such that it can be retrieved, searched and updated easily in order to be shared either internally throughout the organization or externally with other organizations, government agencies and/or clients. The current research aims at exploring the pros (deriving forces) and cons (restraining forces) of applying web content management systems in the Egyptian travel agencies. The study depended on both secondary and primary sources of data. The secondary data was gathered from a number of text books, white papers, web articles, presentations and previous studies. The primary data was collected in two successive phases. The first phase was carried out in the beginnings of the year 2005 and involved a questionnaire survey that included 15 purposively- selected and 45 randomly-selected Class (A) travel agencies in Cairo Metropolitan. The second phase was carried out in the second half of the year 2006 and involved conducting a series of in- depth semi-structured interviews with a number of information technology specialists and key persons in the Egyptian travel business. The paper concludes that web content management systems are nowadays used by the Egyptian Tourism Authority (ETA) as well as by some of the non governmental tourism organizations (NGOs) and/or private travel agencies in Egypt. However, the extent to which such systems are used and the benefits gained from such usage are actually far below average due to a number of business-related problems. The paper further identifies the pros on cons of using web content management systems in the Egyptian travel agencies and provides a number of solutions that aim at weakening the restraining forces and strengthening the deriving ones.
