| المستخلص: | يعد عنصر الزمن بصورة عامة والمدد الإجرائية الجزائية بصورة خاصة مظهرا من المظاهر المهمة الملاحظة في قانون أصول المحاكمات الجزائية في الإجراءات المنصوص عليها، إذ تتسم بعض هذه الإجراءات بالخطورة لمساسها بحقوق وحريات الأفراد الشخصية وحرمة مساكنهم وان من أبرز العوامل المرتبطة بالإجراءات الجزائية عامل الزمن وما يمكن أن يترتب عليه من أثار ونتائج سلبية في حالة عدم مراعاته، كإرهاق المتهم ببقائه لمدة طويلة خاضعا للإجراءات مما يولد الاعتقاد لدى الأفراد بعدم جدية وكفاءة الأجهزة التحقيقية والقضائية وضعفهما في أداء مهامهما، ومن ثم ازدياد الجرائم ورغبة اللجوء إلى الانتقام والثأر نتيجة تأخر السلطات في توفير الأمن وتحقيق العدل، ، مما يستلزم وضع حدود معينة لهذه الإجراءات من مختلف جوانبها ليتحقق التوافق بين المصلحة التي دعت لهذه الإجراءات والمصلحة التي يمكن أن تتضرر من جراء مباشرتها. \ ولأجل الاحاطة بتفاصيل هذا الموضوع المهم فقد تناولناه في مبحثين بينا في المبحث الأول طبيعة التحقيق الابتدائي من حيث المدة وذلك في ثلاثة مطالب، خصصنا المطلب الاول للسرعة في انجاز التحقيق الابتدائي وماله من دور بارز في بلوغ التحقيق الابتدائي لأهدافه أما المطلب الثاني فبينا فيه مظاهر مراعاة السرعة في التحقيق الابتدائي اما المطلب الثالث تناولنا فيه النطاق الزمني للتحقيق الابتدائي في حين خصصنا المبحث الثاني المدد المتعلقة بإجراءات التحقيق الابتدائي كل في مطلب مستقل.
