الوصف
المستخلص:The reconciliation agreement recently signed in Gaza is not the first of its kind between the Palestinian groups: the National Liberation Movement (Fateh) and Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). There were several of them, mainly those of Sana’a 2008, Cairo 2011, Doha 2012 and Cairo 2012. The previous accords were accompanied by conditions forcing or persuading the two parties to engage in direct talks and reach understandings, some of which included time schedules. The analyses of all those settlements divided between optimism and pessimism. The report aims to discuss the success and failure factors of the agreement, which lie in both movements’ circumstances, internal conviction to put an end to the division, the predicted interests or losses and, inevitably, the Arab and international parties concerned for the Palestinian issue. In conclusion, the destiny of the current settlement is likely to be better than the previous ones, leading to the end of the dispute, Hamas’ abandonment of Gaza’s rule and the formation of a unified government taking over both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. This is all dependent on the change in the conditions pressing them to believe in ending the divide, which may shift in the foreseen future.
