The following study examines the issue of self-esteem and achievement motivation in students with hearing impairment and deafness who are integrated with normal students in regular classrooms. \ It aims to prove, firstly, the existence of correlation between these two concepts (self- esteem and achievement motivation) in student with hearing impairment and deafness, secondly, the difference in their existence between males and females. \ The dissertation is based on two general hypothesis and four partial hypothesis that included the above mentioned aims. \ To achieve these aims, we have a field study sample of the type mentioned. The sample comprised 33 students (14 males and 19 females) from different grades classes in Algiers ( from grade seven to high school) \ In Clinical assessment we used the clinical interview, Cooper Smith's measure of self-esteem and Hearmans' measure of achievement motivation in studies of the following hypothesis: \ Making sure that there is a statistically significant correlation between self-esteem and achievement motivation in students with hearing impairment and deafness. \ Making sure that there is a statistically significant correlation between the four sub-measures of self-esteem and achievement motivation in students with hearing impairment and deafness. \ Making sure that there is no statistically significant differences in self-esteem and achievement motivation between males and females in students with hearing impairment and deafness. \ Making sure that there is no statistically significant differences in the two sub¬measures of self-esteem (public self-esteem and home self-esteem) between males and females in students with hearing impairment and deafness. \ Making sure that there is no statistically significant differences in the two sub- measures of self-esteem (social self-esteem and in work self-esteem) between males and females in students with hearing impairment and deafness. \ According to our approaches and analysis results, the self-esteem in students with hearing impairment and deafness affect their achievement motivation and there is no difference between males and females either in self-esteem or achievement motivation. |
