| المستخلص: | مدينة الخليل عريقة في اسلاميتها وعروبيتها، فبها بشر واستقر أول المسلمين ابراهيم عليه الصلاة والسلام ، وهذا ما أكده سبحانه وتعالى بقول : (قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ (162) لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَبِذَلِكَ أُمِرْتُ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ) (سورة الأنعام آية 162 -163). \ تتناول هذه الدراسة موضوع سماط أو ضيافة خليل الرحمن عليه الصلاة والسلام في العصر المملوكي 658 - 923 هـ/ 1260- 1517م والمقصود بسماط الخليل كمصطلح الطعام الذى يطبخ ويوزع على المجاورين والواردين ، أما السماط في اللغة فيعرف بسماط القوم : صفهم ، ويقال : قام القوم حوله سماطين أي صفين ، وكل صف من الرجال سماط. \ ويحتوي هذا البحث على مستخلص ومقدمة وتمهيد والتعريف بمدينة الخليل من حيث اللفظ والموقع والجامع الإبراهيمي والتعريف بالسماط لغة والمقصود بسماط الخليل ووظائف السماط وجامع الخليل وزوار السماط ومكان السماط وقدور السماط وأقوال الرحالة والجغرافيين المسلمين ورعاية سلاطين المماليك والجمع بين قدسيتها وقدسية القدس وتحقيق الأمن والأمان ورفع المظالم وربط الخليل مباشرة بالقاهرة وأوقاف السماط وجامع الخليل وخاتمة البحث والحواشي والتعليقات ومستخلص باللغة الإنجليزية.
