| المستخلص: | يرتكز هذا البحث على صورة رجل القرن العشرين كما صوره ت. س. اليوت في شعره في شعر اليوت، شخصيات مثل بروفروك، سويني، جيرونشن وشخصيات أخرى تم وصفها بـ "الرجال الخاوين" وهي تمثيل حي لهذه الصورة، أيضا يتناول أزمات الرجل المعاصر والحياة المعاصرة بصورة عامة وكيف أصبحت خالية من أي معنى بدون عقيدة أو إيمان بالله. \ السبب وراء اختيار هذا الموضوع هو عقم الحياة المعاصر والتي قد تكون ذات شبه بحياة هؤلاء الناس الغربيين، ولدعوة الناس لتقوية رابطهم مع الله لينالوا راحة البال. \ تم تقسيم البحث إلى ثلاثة أجزاء وخاتمة، الجزء الأول حول حياة وأعمال الشاعر، الناقد والكاتب المسرحي الكبير ت. س. اليوت، أما الجزء الثاني فخصص لإعطاء لمحة موجزة عن حياة القرن العشرين ومشاكلها وأخيرا الجزء الثالث عن قصيدة اليوت "الرجال الخاوين" والتي تمثل عينة لعديد من الحيوات الأخرى في الأرض البور في عصرنا هذا. Abstract \ This research is based on the portrait of modem man as depicted by T.S Eliot in his poetry. Prufrock, Sweeney Gerontion and other characters described as 'the hollow men' in Eliot's poetry are the best representation of this picture. It also deals with the crises of modern man and modem life in general and how meaningless it turned to be without religion and without faith in God. \ The reason behind selecting such a topic is because of the futile modern life which may have similar characteristics to the life of those western people , and to call people to strengthen their relation with God in order to gain peace of mind . \ The research is divided into three parts with a conclusion , the first part is about life and work of the great poet, critic and dramatist, T.S. Eliot , while the second part is devoted to give a brief idea about the modern life and its problems; finally, the third part is for Sweeney and others as a sample of many other lives in such a waste land as this age |
