| المستخلص: | الخرائط الموضوعية تعتمد في تمثيلها للظواهر الجغرافية على أسلوبين هما النوعي والكمي، فضلا عن الرموز الهندسية المختلفة في المساحة والحجم المبنية على معايير رياضية بحته يتم من خلالها بناء الرموز وربط العلاقة بين أرقام المعادلات الخاصة بالفئات اللازم بناؤها لكل ظاهرة جغرافية يراد تمثيلها أو ترميزها على الخرائط الموضوعية بأسلوب الترميز الكمي فضلا عن أن العناصر الأساسية في الخرائط الجغرافية بشكل عام والخرائط الموضوعية الرقمية بشكل خاص لها مكانة مهمة جدا لان ادارك وفهم تلك العناصر وتحليلها تحليلا صحيحا يعد عاملا أساس لإدراكها وقراءتها قراءة علمية تتوافق مع الهدف الذي من أجله أنشأت الخريطة، وجاءت مشكلة الدراسة بعدة تساؤلات، وهي هل هناك أهمية لقراءة الخرائط الموضوعية من قبل الباحث الجغرافي؟ وماهي درجة الاختلاف بين الخرائط الموضوعية التقليدية والتقنية الرقمية ببرامج نظم المعلومات الجغرافية؟ فكانت الفرضية انه رغم الاستخدام الواسع للخرائط الموضوعية في البحوث والرسائل والاطاريح الجغرافية إلا أن هناك خللا في قراءة الخريطة بالشكل العلمي المطلوب لذلك تفترض الدراسة بأن يمتلك الباحث قراءة موضوعية للخريطة ومعرفة أهميتها البحثية، وكما تفترض الدراسة أن هناك اختلاف بين الخريطة الموضوعية التقليدية والخريطة الموضوعية الرقمية في طبيعة تمثيل الظواهر الجغرافية واعتماد بعض الرموز، وهدفت الدراسة إلى معرفة ماهية الخريطة الموضوعية ومدى أهميتها للباحث الجغرافي والمقارنة بين الخرائط الموضوعية التقليدية والخرائط الرقمية. وجاءت نتائج الدراسة بأن الخرائط الموضوعية تشارك غيرها من الخرائط الأخرى المتنوعة في عرض الظاهرة الجغرافية وتحويلها من أرقام مجردة إلى أشكال مرئية مرتبطة بمكان تواجد الظاهرة الجغرافية في الطبيعة، كما وتتميز الخرائط الموضوعية بقدرتها على بيان التوزيع الفعلي للظاهرة الجغرافية كما هي في الطبيعة بالإضافة إلى استخدامها لمعايير إحصائية متعددة تمكن مستخدم الخريطة من معرفة القيمة الإحصائية التقريبية للظاهرة الجغرافية والتعرف على خصائصها في كل إقليم على الخريطة.
