| المستخلص: | بذل الرعيل الأول من الرواة العلماء والنقاد جهودا كبيرة ومضنية من أجل تدوين تراث العرب الشعري وتوثيقه، وتنقيته مما علق به من الشوائب والأدران، ومن أجل تلك المهمة القومية، خرجوا إلى البوادي لأخذ الشعر من أفواه الأعراب، وأبناء القبائل، ومن أبناء الشعراء وأحفادهم، ومن بعد ذلك قاموا بصناعة المجاميع الشعرية ودواوين للشعراء، ودواوين للقبائل، فصنعوا دواوين لمعظم الشعراء، ولكن فات بعضهم قصائد وأبيات للشعراء لم يقفوا عليها، وقد جمعتها في هذا المستدرك شعرا لعدد من الشعراء، فبلغ مجموع الاستدراك ((۱۳۱)) مائة وواحد وثلاثين بيتا.
