| المستخلص: | Profondément affectée par le contexte actuel amer de son pays, l’auteure essaie dans cet article, de comprendre l’évolution politique de Riad al-Solh, premier président du gouvernement libanais, telle que décrite dans les trois principales biographies que lui ont consacrées : Hilal el Solh (1996), Ahmad Beydoun (2011) et Patrick Seale (2011/2017). Elle eut recours pour cela à la méthode diachronique qui étudie la genèse d’un phénomène, ses antécédents, son évolution, la succession temporelle des faits qui l’ont constitué et leur enchainement. Elle montre comment l’attitude politique de Riad est passée, de promoteur tenace de l’unité arabe, à pilier incontournable de la construction d’un pays, le Liban, à visage arabe mais indépendant et souverain. Elle en conclut que cette évolution reflète des tendances et des forces générales agissant dans le monde du temps de Riad al-Solh et du nôtre, au Liban et ailleurs, et en constitue des « signes » révélateurs. Deeply affected by the current bitter context of her country, the author tries in this article to understand the political evolution of Riad al-Solh, first president of the Lebanese government, as described in the three main biographies devoted to him: Hilal el Solh (1996), Ahmad Beydoun (2011) and Patrick Seale (2011/2017). To do this, she used the diachronic method, which studies the genesis of a phenomenon, its antecedents, its evolution, the temporal succession of the facts, which constituted it and their sequence. It shows how Riad's political attitude went from being a tenacious promoter of Arab unity to an essential pillar in the construction of a country, Lebanon, with an Arab face but independent and sovereign. She concludes that this development reflects general trends and forces acting in the world of Riad al-Solh's time and ours, in Lebanon and elsewhere, and constitutes revealing "signs".
