Patriarch Elias Al-Howayek entrusted Bishop Youssef Derian Al-Ashkouti with the establishment of a Maronite bishopric in Egypt, appointing him as its bishop. Bishop Derian utilized a contribution method to raise funds, enabling the purchase of land and the completion of the building where he and his assistants resided. The credit for this achievement goes to the generous contributions of the Lebanese community in Egypt, who generously donated the necessary funds to bring the project to fruition. In this manner, a diocese was successfully established in Egypt, playing a pivotal role in addressing the spiritual and social needs of the Maronite community.
