| المستخلص: | يهدف البحث إلى تسليط الضوء على شخصية سياسية لبنانية مهمة أترث في تاريخ لبنان السياسي المعاصر، في حقبة زمنية اتسمت بالتعقيد والتقاطع وتشابك الأحداث التي مر بها لبنان، إنّه إميل لحود، القائد العسكري، والرئيس الحادي عشر للجمهورية اللبنانية، تلك الشخصية التي وضعت بصماتها في ذاكرة لبنان واللبنانيين، لما عرف عنه من مواقف وطنية صلبة، وتمسكه بحقوق شعبه المشروعة، ودفاعه عنها طيلة مدة تواجده في المعترك السياسي، إذ سعى جاهداً منذ الوهلة الأولى لتوليه منصب رئاسة الجمهورية إلى الحفاظ على اللحمة الوطنية اللبنانية، وحماية مسيرة الوفاق الوطني، وضبط الأمن في الداخل ومواجهة أي عدوان من الخارج، وحرص على بناء دولة القانون والمؤسسات، وتحقيق العدالة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية، وكان شغله الشاغل تنفيذ مشروعه الإصلاحي الذي أراد به مكافحة الفساد وإلغاء الطائفية على كافة المستويات، كما وقف إلى جانب المقاومة اللبنانية وعدّها حقاً مشروعاً من حقوق اللبنانيين، ودافع عنها في جميع المحافل الدولية وبشتى الوسائل والسبل، حتى قويت شوكتها وأصبحت لها قاعدة شعبية قوية، فشهد عهده أحداثاً غير مسبوقةً تمثلت بانسحاب "إسرائيل" من جنوب لبنان عام 2000 تنفيذاً للقرار الدولي (425)، ودون قيد أو شرط، وانتصار حزب الله على "إسرائيل" في حرب تموز 2006، والذي كان انتصاراً تاريخياً لا سابق له في تاريخ الصراع العربي- الإسرائيلي.
