المستخلص:Spiritual development is vital in the process of shaping one’s identity. In many cases, the involvement in corruption and other criminal cases stems from the failure in attaining a balanced spiritual development. From the perspective of the engineering field of study, spiritual development is seen to be depending on the initiative of the students themselves, which is rarely done systematically by the administration of an educational institution. Indirectly, this will lead to a spiritual development that is unbalanced and not holistic. This article suggests a conceptual framework of the spiritual development model that can be integrated into engineering subjects. The main objective of this spiritual development model is to strengthen the student’s faith and confidence in the greatness of God in life and the hereafter. Three main attributes which are the belief in God, self-awareness, and the awareness of the ukhrowi have been found to be the affective domain of the framework. Control Engineering, a subject that is being taught to third-year engineering students of Mechatronic Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, is used as an example for the purpose of this study. The implementation of this model starts with a teaching plan whereby relevant the affective domain will be integrated into the topics taught together with the existing cognitive domain. The evaluation of the effectiveness of this model will be measured through the assessment of the affective domain alongside the assessment of the cognitive domain in the subject taught. This conceptual framework of the model will be able to improve the quality of spiritual development among the students alongside the teaching process of engineering subjects. Hopefully, this conceptual framework can contribute to the academic field, especially in the field of engineering studies in Malaysia.
