المستخلص:The world today is experiencing a technological revolution with multiple dimensions, especially in the field of the Internet, which has become a necessity for many people. A revolution that has brought about radical changes in the nature of human communication, it differs from its predecessors in the world of communication, as it has brought many benefits to people, and has been able to transcend various barriers, values and norms, without real (actual) oversight of its content, especially since the person who deals with the Internet relies solely on himself to satisfy his desires and needs by using this interactive communication technology despite the distances involved, the multilingualism and the diversity of cultures. The research was based on the theory of uses and gratifications as a theoretical framework, using the survey method, and the number of simple random sample vocabulary was (280) items. This research aims to identify the motives behind the use of Facebook, the nature of gratifications achieved by university students in using it, the groups in which sample members participate, and the methods that determine their choice of groups. The research found that more than two-thirds of the sample used Facebook for the purposes of increasing scientific knowledge and cultural information and keeping abreast of current events. The use of Facebook among students accords satisfaction from obtaining useful information and in applying the newly acquired knowledge. Moreover, the vast majority of respondents participate in cognitive and cultural groups while using Facebook.
