| 520 | |b The penal colony’s north Africans are original spaces of a politics of tactical - military character and they were playing a role of the military garrison who defended the garrisons, beside taking it as a fundamental function of acting as the first defensive line, against the assaults towards the peninsular territory from the North African coasts or the Oriental Mediterranean, in case of Spain. Furthermore, being penitentiary places where sentences are fulfilled by ordinary or military crimes. The western historiography has given many attentions to the Hispanic penal colony’s in the north African littoral, considering them like frontier spaces; to have been designated like this, and over the centuries, the studies have qualified them as geographical, urban borders and occasionally economic, and geopolitical and religious borders. This way, Oran initially a Maghrebi city as other possessions north Africans turned into prison but also into frontier city and shared with these spaces the same history from the beginning up to the definitive dislocation of most of these enclaves. | ||
| 520 | |d Los presidios son espacios originarios de una política de carácter táctico-militar y desempeñaban el rol de una guarnición militar que defendía las plazas, además de tener un rol basico actuando como primera línea defensiva, contra los ataques hacia el territorio peninsular provenientes de las costas norteafricanas o del Mediterráneo Oriental. También, sirvieron como lugares penitenciarios donde se cumplen penas por delitos ordinarios o militares. La historiografía occidental ha prestado mucha atención a los presidios hispanos en el litoral norteafricano, considerándolos como espacios fronterizos; al ser designados así, y con el paso de los siglos, los estudios les han cualificado como fronteras geográficas, urbanas y de vez en cuando económicas, y también fronteras geopolíticas y religiosas. Así, Orán; inicialmente ciudad magrebí y tal como las demás posesiones norteafricanas se convirtió en presidio, pero también en ciudad fronteriza, y compartió con estos espacios la misma historia a partir de los principios hasta la dislocación definitiva de la mayoría de estos enclaves. | ||
