المستخلص:The present study investigates the effect of cloze instruction on EFL 5th preparatory school students' writing skill and improves their attitudes towards learning English language. Therefore, a sample of sixty- four fifth Preparatory male students has been purposively chosen from Omar Bin Gundub Secondary school in Tikrit city at, Salah Al-Din Governorate in the scholastic year (20120-2021) and equally distributed into experimental and control groups. The experimental group is taught writing by using the cloze instruction strategy, while the control group is taught by using the traditional method, i.e., without using the cloze instruction strategy, for a period of three months. An achievement pre-posttest and a questionnaire have been constructed and administrated to the involved sample of the study. The collected data have been analyzed statistically to clarify and highlight the following results: 1. There is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pretest and that in the posttest of the writing skill, and in favour of the posttest. 2. There is no significant difference of using cloze instruction on EFL 5th preparatory school students in the component of writing skill: spelling. 3. There is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group and that of the control group in the posttest, and in favors of the experimental group. This study is presented in five sections. An introduction which gives a general presentation of the effect of cloze instruction on EFL 5th preparatory school students' writing skill and improves their attitudes towards learning English language. The second section presents some important and basic concepts related to this study. The third section outlines the categories of writing skills in detail. The fourth section sheds light on data analysis. The fifth section concludes with a discussion of the findings.
