المستخلص:Renewable energy sources have become a popular alternative electrical energy source where it is friendly to the environment. In the last few years, power energy generated from wind turbine has been increased significantly, which brings new opportunities and also problems to the utilities and customers. In Jordan, and with the great development in the water purification sector, AS SAMRA Wastewater Treatment was established with 12MW in AZ ZARQA, where Induction motors (IM) used for various applications in the station operate with lagging power factor, and the nature of the loads connected with station consume reactive power. In this work we will propose some solutions such as providing clean energy by using a wind farm with a capacity of 12MW which is connected directly to the station, and using Flexible Alternate Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices in the system and particularly the Static Synchronous Condenser (STATCOM) to ensure higher quality power into the grid. However, connected wind farms to the national network leads to many challenges and should be studied for enhancing the power quality and system stability. This thesis investigates the use of a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) along with wind farms for the purpose of stabilizing the grid voltage after grid-side disturbances such as a three-phase short circuit fault and Double Line to Ground fault (DLG), temporary trip of a wind turbine and sudden load changes. The strategy focuses on a fundamental grid operational requirement to maintain proper voltages at the point of common coupling by regulating voltage. In this thesis a wind farm in AZ ZARQA area will be designed and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink software using a real wind data. An investigation of the impact of the wind farm to AS SAMRA Wastewater Treatment Distribution Network will be evaluated from the point view of voltage stability and power factor enhancing. In this wok wind farm of a capacity 12 MW will be designed, simulated and emulated as connected with the Jordanian national grid (AS SAMRA distribution network). Analyze the effect of this link on the stability of the Jordanian national grid, FACT devices will be employed to improve the stability of the system.
