المستخلص:Drought is the most important abiotic factor affecting wheat production and development of tolerant genotypes is limited by the lack of effective selection criteria. A genetic analysis of drought tolerance traits at seedling stage (i.e. root length, shoot length, root/shoot ratio and seedling dry weight) was performed for a six-parent half diallel crosses of bread wheat in Germination Lab at faculty of agriculture, Sohag University during winter season of 2018/2019. The parents and their F2 progenies were evaluated in the laboratory under drought stress induced by polyethylene glycol (PEG) with three treatments (0, 5, 10 and 15% PEG-6000). The parent PI exhibited the highest values of (RDW, RSR and SL) and P6 was the longest RL under well watered, 10 and 15% PEG. The highest RSR at 5, 10 and 15% PEG were found in P6, P3 and Pl. Both additive and non-additive gene effects were involved in the genetic control of all traits. The most general combiner were (P2, P3 and P6), (P6, Pl and P6), (P6, P2 and P4) and (Pl, P6 and P6) for RSR, RWC and RL under control, 5, 10 and 15% PEG treatments respectively. Low to moderately narrow-sense heritability obtained for RSR (0.251 and 0.145) and RL (0.33 and 0.382) at 10 and 15% PEG respectively. The highest SCA were found in crosses of (PixP4, P5xP2), (P5xP4), (P2xP1) and (P4xP1 and P5xP2) for RSR, (P6xP2), (P3xP2), (P6xP1) and (P6xP2) for RWC, (P2xP1), (P6xP2), (P5xP3) and (P2xPl) under well-watered, 5, 10 and 15% PEG respectively.
