| 520 | |f The balances between poets in our ancient Arab criticism were based on proving the perfection of poets and categorizing them by looking at their poetry. They were not going according to a disciplined methodology, and they remained simple, summarizing the admiration of one connoisseur of one poet without another. The controversy that arose around Abu Tammam and al-Buhturi had turned into messages of fanaticism for one of the poets, so al-Amidi came and engaged objectively in the issue of antagonism between the two Tayis and dealt with it with a scientific method in which he combined good taste, knowledge, and critical experience, taking advantage of the scientific environment that characterized the Abbasid era.
