| المستخلص: | This study aims to investigate the different modes of memory utilized by Naomi Shihab Nye in her poetry- both as an Arab American and as a citizen of the world- to address her obligations towards her "local" and global affiliations through resistance and affirmation. The study analyzes these practices- seen to be held from Shihab Nye's partial cosmopolitan stance- both in her local American context where she resists the commonly accepted narrative of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and affirms the existence of an alternative story, and in a global context where the poet affirms human connectedness and resists the dehumanization of others. In doing so, memory is seen as a medium for communality which allows for the revocation of biased and restrictive frames of vision and which enables the creation of tolerance and empathy, making way for more inclusive cultural perspectives. |
